"Now" - that is lost

I cannot predict the future
I cannot change the past
I have just the present moment
I must treat it as the last
- Anonymous
Present - Somewhere I read, "present" is called so because it is the greatest "gift" that life gives us and that too not rarely but at every moment of our life. And to think that we never realise the worth of the precious this moment. I have no intention to blame anybody, but once in a while we all sit and ponder over our past, or for the matter worry about the future. Do we not?
But foolish as we all are
We have no sight of the far
We shed tears for the past
For moments that did not last
And this moment is lost too
Giving our tears a reason anew
We worry and fret over tomorrow
For the future, our fears grow
And this moment that is at hand
Is gone before we understand
But why then when we do know,
We still treat the present so
Our ignorance still does grow
Till its time for "now" to go
And then we beg, plead and pray
That this "now" just must stay
But by now, "now" had turned past
One more "now" that did not last
One more tear for "yesterday"
While it was ignored at its today
And "today" is lost again
Our realization goes in vain !!!

Wow, very nice, I really like it, first, excellent quote/poem that you used as your subject, I really liked it, then the talk, and lastly the poem,
sometimes i sit down and i think about time... and i wonder about the future, and i try to learn from the past, but the present does indeed seem to go unnoticed, the present, the NOW, what we're doing when we're doing kt, never gets the appreciation it deserves
How true, how true, we worry about the future, and we ponder the past, but the moment at hand, the most important moment in our entire life for that moment is forgotten thinking about the past/future,
'tis a shame, 'tis a shame...
I've never really thought about it this way, but it's an excellent point,
I write poetry also, so i definitely enjoyed reading some from someone who can write,
I'm going to bookmark you and check back every now and then, also plan to read the other posts,

I will surely visit your blog.
Hi Anki :)
Wonderful to read another fresh thought, dealt with elegance and adorned with such a fluent poem.
The view point is essentially agreeable and admirable, however it may not be complete. What you've elaborated is ONE way in which people react to Past, "Present" and Future. Worrying over the future is one thing and being concerned about is another. Same goes for past, it is not always the futile repentance, but sometimes a delightful rememberance of past memories is also what we indulge into.
Its just the perspective, for being too fretful and ignoring present is a sin ofcourse, but equally unfortunate is getting too complacent or lackadaisical about tomorrow.
Nice to read see a post (n the poem) after a long time !
God Bless You :)
@ kaps
hi bhaiya,
seems this time, i have actually dealt with a thought one-sidedly (its good to know i have done something differently :D).
of course, i agree with you. Memories are cherishable thoughts and planning for future is necessary :). wat i was trying to convey is that crying over what is lost and worrying (not being concerned) over future is less important than making the present worth remembering.
its a beautiful piece
so right you are..... we fret and fume and ponder about the past.... and worry about the future.... and forget to live today!!!
@ anks
Thnks. I m glad tht u liked :)
In full agreement with you(now is it for the first time??)...Life should be lived and enjoyed to the maximum...and certainly there is no use crying over the past and worrying about the future...Present is the best,so forget the rest!!!
just one suggestion...if thinking about the past and dreaming about the future does give you some joy, do go for it sometimes.
Well documented abstruse thoughts :)
Now you have indeed used your 'precious' present moment to capture some thoughts that have had significance in the past and will have in the future as well .
Now does that make any sense or is it just the bogus production of my present feverish state of affairs ?? ;)
wow!awesome creation once again:)
Put it Right,End ur Sorrows,Excel Not Try!..is what PRESENT is!!
@ Shubhra
You agreeeee!!!! thts a real surprise :D. waise like i said i agree... some moments of past are cherishable and planning for future is necessary :)
@ Shaunak
